Cleaning Specifications
Area to be serviced:
Areas of Monash University that may require cleaning: Offices, classrooms, lecture theatres, conference rooms, laboratories, libraries, medical rooms, kitchens, workshops, toilets, dressing rooms, staircases, entrances, foyers, lifts etc.
Waste Removal:
Daily:
Empty all waste from foyers, offices, meeting rooms, toilets, kitchens, lifts, classrooms, Laboratories, lecture theatres, library, and common rooms.
Hazardous waste is the responsibility of individual departments, under no circumstances is any hazardous waste to be removed from any laboratory.
Remove all waste from all areas to designated area no later than 8.00 am
Replace bin liners and wipe clean bins as necessary.
Where bags are used they are to be made of a bio-degradable material, if bags are not used then the bins are required to be kept in a clean & hygienic condition at all times
All cardboard is to be flattened and placed in Cardboard Recycling Facility.
Collect all Co-Mingled recycling material from kitchens & public spaces etc and place in Recycle Wheelie bins located at specified waste collection points.
Paper recycling is the responsibility of individuals within there departments, where Environmental & Sustainability programs are in place then the responsibility of emptying paper recycling boxes will be managed by the cleaning staff on a weekly basis.

End of semester:
All waste receptacles are to be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected as necessary.
N.B Cleaning staff are instructed that they are only to empty waste paper or garbage bins, and under no circumstances are they to remove any material beside or near bins unless it is clearly marked rubbish or for disposal.
Please mark accordingly if it is to be removed
If unsure leave it.
Carpeted Floors:
Daily:
Vacuum all entrances, common/public areas.
Twice Weekly:
Vacuum carpeted areas, using an approved vacuum cleaner leaving floor free from all loose dirt & debris.
Weekly:
Fully vacuum all carpeted areas using an approved vacuum cleaner, paying attention to corners, edges and underneath furniture, leaving carpet completely free from all dust, dirt and debris.
Spot clean marks stains and spillages as they appear with an approved cleaning agent
Annually:
All carpeted areas within buildings will be Steam Cleaned on an annual basis (generally around semester breaks Dec-Feb / June-July period), further carpet cleaning is available by request and may be chargeable.
Vinyl-Parquetry-Tiled Floors:
Daily:
Thoroughly sweep mop all vinyl, parquetry and tiled flooring, paying particular attention to under furniture, doorways, edges etc., leaving flooring completely free from all dust, dirt and debris.
Thoroughly damp/wet mop all vinyl, parquetry and tiled flooring, removing all dirt & spillages,
Weekly:
Machine buff all flooring removing all scruff marks, leaving floor free from all dirt, spillages and scuff marks, ensure all overspray or build up of polish is removed from skirting boards and vinyl kick boards as necessary.
Annually:
Strip and reseal vinyl flooring or as required.
N.B All floors are to be left in clean, safe, non slip condition at all times.
Toilet Amenities:
Daily:
Clean and disinfect pans, seats, urinals and hand basins thoroughly, using approved cleaning agents, leaving a clean appearance at all times, includes showers.
Spot clean all glass and mirrors.
Replace toilet rolls, hand towels, hand soap
Wipe clean underneath pans, basins, pipes, towel dispensers and hand dryers.
Sweep and mop floor.
Weekly:
Thoroughly clean and disinfect pans, seats, urinals, hand basins, using approved cleaning agents.
Thoroughly clean underneath pans, basins, pipes, towel dispensers, hand dryers.
Wipe clean wall tiles, fittings, light switches, door handles, and remove all cobwebs
Wipe clean shower cubicles.
Thoroughly clean all glass and mirrors, leaving smear free.
Thoroughly sweep flooring, paying attention behind pans, doors etc
Mop clean, and machine buff when dry removing any scuff marks
Any maintenance faults are to be reported to the cleaning Supervisor
Dusting/Damp Dusting:
Daily: Common Areas
Dust or wipe clean all accessible surfaces, using an approved disinfectant, ie: desks, counter tops, benches, tables, windowsills, shelving and furniture.
Wipe clean glass top tables leaving smear free finish
Wash clean all drinking fountains.
Weekly: Offices
Dust or wipe clean all, window ledges, sills, light fittings, fire extinguishers, vents, partitions, skirting boards, telephones, furniture, and all horizontal surfaces leaving a dust free environment.
Monthly:
Dust or wipe clean behind all readily movable furniture, wall, light fittings, etc removing all dust and cobwebs.
Venetian blinds are to be dusted progressively whereby each is serviced monthly.
Note: Laboratory Benches are the responsibility of departments and not to be cleaned unless clearly authorized.
Glass Cleaning:
Daily:
Clean and remove finger marks from all mirrors, all glass, doors, glass panels glass partitions, leaving completely clean and smear free.
Monthly:
Fully wash both sides, of all Entrance/Foyer glass & surrounding entrance/foyer panels , leaving completely clean and smear free finish.
External / Internal Shell Glass
External & Internal glass is performed on an annual basis please contact you Campus Cleaning contact for further details
Kitchens / Tea Rooms / Common Rooms:
Daily:
Wipe clean all tables, sinks, and benches ( if cleared )
Weekly:
Wipe clean all dust, marks, and spillages from outside faces of cupboards, refrigerators, microwaves, light fittings and walls.
Stairwells
All internal stairs are to either swept & mopped or vacuumed daily, emergency & other stairwells are to be checked on weekly basis and cleaned accordingly including hand rails and ledges.
Entrances (external)
Daily:
Sweep all external entrances landings, colonnades, and stairs around buildings leaving free from all dirt and debris & cobwebs.
Wipe clean hand rails
Lifts
Daily:
Sweep or mop flooring, wipe clean all surfaces, stainless steel surfaces are to be cleaned using cloth & stainless steel cleaner Mirror walls to be cleaned ( remove any excess cleaner from surface )
Lift tracks to be cleared of all dust & dirt.
