Water
Water is the world’s most precious resource. Water conservation and water efficiency are amongst the University’s top priorities, and, to reflect this, the Water Conservation Committee was formed in 2001. Measures introduced by this committee have resulted in a 20% reduction in overall water consumption since 2006. Savings have been achieved by: upgrading plumbing fittings, implementing the Permanent Water Saving Rules, rainwater harvesting for toilets and grounds use and staff.
The main areas of water usage at Monash are: domestic(e.g. toilets, showers, hand basins and food preparation), laboratory teaching and research, cooling towers, sports field irrigation and grounds.
