Take the pledge to go beyond Earth Hour in 2011
Monash University and its students and staff once again have an opportunity to show their commitment to solving the problem of climate change during the upcoming Earth Hour 2011, scheduled from 8.30 to 9.30pm on Saturday 26 March.
Students and staff can support Earth Hour by registering their commitment to the event on the official Earth Hour Australia website and by turning off lights and appliances in their home from 8.30pm to 9.30pm on Saturday 26 March. The University will support the individual actions of its students and staff with cuts to electricity consumption at all campuses during Earth Hour.
Monash students and staff keen to take up this year’s Earth Hour theme and ‘Go Beyond the Hour’ can do so in many ways at home and at Monash:
- Take the Monash Environmental Pledge to learn more about simple, effective actions you can take immediately for a more sustainable lifestyle – and support renewable energy on campus at the same time
- Become a Green Rep and join hundreds of other students and staff making a difference to the University’s sustainability
- Sign up to the Green News online newsletter for all of the latest news on sustainability at Monash
The University and its students and staff have supported Earth Hour since its inception in 2007. The event has now become a global event with what the organisers say is participation by over a billion people in thousands of cities in 128 countries.
