A trio of firsts for Monash University

Monash University has taken delivery of the first vehicle from the Victorian State Government Electric Vehicle Trial.  The Prius plug-in hybrid, registration 000 EVT, is not only the first car in the trial, it is also the first of its type to be operated in Australia!

The car will power up at the charge point installed in carpark C2 – the first charge point to be installed as part of the trial!  The vehicle will be a part of the Clayton campus pool vehicle fleet and will be available for all Clayton campus staff to use.  Simply go to the pool vehicle hire webpage and select the Prius plug-in as your car of choice.

The Department of Transport has identified Monash University Clayton campus as a destination for first movers in the electric vehicle field.   “This is a really exciting opportunity for Monash University.  Clayton campus staff will be able to test the vehicle and provide real world data to the State government,” Paul Barton, Director of the Office of Environmental Sustainability (pictured) said.

“The EV Trial is about testing a relatively new technology in the real world, seeing how it behaves, how drivers interact with the technology and reporting this information,” Paul Barton added.

“Monash University is looking forward to being a part of the trial and to testing more vehicles as the trial continues for the next 4 years”.
