New Carpool Matching Service
A new and improved Carpool Matching Service now allows Monash students and staff to share one-off trips as well as regular journeys.
The service enables anyone to offer or seek rides from all the Victorian campuses as well as those in Malaysia, Italy and South Africa. The system can be accessed through "My Monash" or the Facilities and Services website.
The search will enable users to find arrival and departure times up to an hour before and after the times they have entered, and includes people living in your neighbouring suburbs as you enter your postcode or home suburb name.
Stefan Siebel, Transport Officer for the Office of Sustainability, said: "The improved matching service allows you to find carpool mates in your area through a more targeted search within the university community, listing their faculty, division, and day-to-day commuting schedule.
"What the new live carpooling service enables you to do is getting a lift home or elsewhere from your campus spontaneously, as a one-off trip, by just calling the poster and making arrangements for same-day departure.
"We trust that this real-time matching is a very useful addition to the type of regular carpool commuting that has been happening at Monash for decades now. Live carpooling allows for much more flexible travel behaviour and encourages people to think about their transport choices more consciously rather than just jump into their cars and go places on their own.
"By linking people living nearby who have similar work or study times - or just want a lift to Chaddy after Uni - we can make more efficient use of the car. In return, you get free campus parking spaces and you can even share your petrol costs with your rideshare mates."
Carpooling enables drivers to use any carpool space at Clayton, Caulfield, Berwick and Peninsula campuses with one single permit. With a Monash carpool permit drivers can park in any of these carpool car parks as long as two permits are displayed on the dashboard and drivers arrive with at least one passenger.
Monash currently provides more than 600 dedicated carpool spaces at Berwick, Caulfield, Clayton and Peninsula campuses. Permits can be obtained from Security and Traffic offices after registering at Facilities & Services carpool website .
