The Security Advisory Office provides high level specialist security advice and services to the University Community.
University Security Manager
Mr Russell Gammie is Monash University Security Manager (& Crisis Team Coordinator)
A key member of the Facilities and Services Division's senior management group, Russell is well supported by a specialist team of security professionals and support staff present at each campus, and is ultimately responsible for the delivery of all security and traffic related services to Monash University campuses.
In addition to this, as Crisis Team Coordinator, his role also provides direct assistance to all CMR Teams (pre, during and post crisis), and coordinates the university's ongoing crisis planning, preparedness, response and recovery arrangements thereby ensuring Monash University's Crisis Management and Recovery (CMR) program remains robust and effective throughout the organisation.
Crime Prevention Coordinator
Mr Craig Mentiplay is the The Crime Prevention Coordinator.
This role is part of the university security advisory office and works with campus security services, police and local community prevention practitioners to promote initiatives across all Victorian campuses. Craig regularly addresses staff and students to help build a greater awareness of safety and security issues.
The Crime Prevention Coordinator also helps departments address potential security issues in their own areas and provides guidance on security related safety within the workplace.
The role of the Crime Prevention Coordinator is to educate, encourage and facilitate students, staff members and visitors to participate in a partnership approach to crime prevention. The Crime Prevention Coordinator forges this partnership by providing specialist information to police members, students, staff members and visitors. The Crime Prevention Coordinator is also proactive in identifying crime problems and students, staff members and visitors needs, and developing crime prevention and safety programs to reduce identified crime trends.

Security Systems Coordinator
Mr Ramze Rifaie is the Security Systems Coordinator.
The Security Systems Coordinator is primarily responsible for the efficient management of the University's access control and intruder detection system as well the CCTV networks. Ramze also manages the operations and performance of the university's 24/7 Security Control Room ensuring reliability of service and the effective response by control room staff.
Electronic Security Systems
All staff and students shall be encouraged to increase their awareness of general electronic security systems and safety principles and practices provided by the university. Information about this is available via the Policies & Procedures page.

Investigations Supervisor
Mr Lee Wilson is the Security Investigations Supervisor.
Security issues that may affect the university community require a thorough and professional investigation to establish the facts and determine an appropriate course of action.
Security issues can include alleged or actual acts of misconduct, criminal behavior or situations where the safety or security of students, staff and or others may be affected. The Security Investigations Supervisor may be required on behalf of the university, to assume the lead investigative role for such incidents particularly those considered serious, complex or sensitive including allegations of assault, threats of violence, stalking, sexual assaults, fraud, theft etc
This specialist operational role applies expert investigative knowledge, skill, advice and support to all the Monash University Australian campuses. It interacts closely with victims, witnesses, perpetrators, fellow security staff and senior members of the university community, including Deans, Faculty and other managers/staff. The Security Investigations Supervisor is of great value to other members of the university's security services team, and in particular campus security supervisors, through the provision of direct operational assistance, professional guidance and high level advice when conducting investigations.
The Security Investigations Supervisor frequently liaises with other stakeholders including, the university counseling service, forensic psychologists, Deans, university solicitors, and if appropriate with relevant external agencies or resources to ensure effective outcomes.
Gathering evidence is naturally an important part of the role. Accordingly the Investigator obtains written statements, conducts interviews, attends crime scenes and examines physical evidence etc during an investigation.
All investigations are of course conducted in strict accordance with relevant legislation, accepted rules, university statutes, policies and procedures.

Monash Crisis Management & Recovery Planning
Ian Henderson is the University’s Crisis Management and Recovery (CMR) Program Coordinator.
The CMR Program Coordinator serves as a focal point for the university’s internal crisis and emergency planning and preparedness arrangements. As a senior member of the university security advisory office, Ian provides valuable expertise and support to all Monash campus CMR Team members pre, during and post crisis, develops and coordinates appropriate training, facilitates and/or supports crisis exercises, conducts related audits, assists schools, departments and units within the university to advance their specific emergency response planning and preparedness needs, and maintains both the currency and accuracy of all CMR documentation, plans and web information/aids.

All Campus Responsibility
Despite the Security Advisory Office being located at the University's Clayton campus, members of the unit have a university wide responsibility and regularly communicate with and attend at all university campuses and other facilities providing professional advice, direction and assistance to local security services, faculties, departments staff, students and others on a wide range of security issues.
The Security Advisory Office strives to promote a high level of participation and awareness concerning matters of personal and organizational security in all sections the Monash University community to help maintain a friendly, safe and successful environment for all.
