Monash University Carpool Service
Carpooling is a means of limiting the number of cars being driven to the campus, therefore reducing greenhouse emissions, traffic and parking congestion. By linking people living nearby who have similar work or study times, we can make more efficient use of our cars, which are generally built to hold five people. In return for making efficient use of your car and campus parking space you can share your petrol costs with your rideshare mates and get a free carpool permit at our Clayton, Caulfield, Berwick and Peninsula campuses.
How does it work?
Every student and staff can travel together to save on their petrol and parking expenses. At Clayton, Caulfield, Berwick and Peninsula anyone can register for a free carpool permit each year. With the Monash carpool permit, you can park in any of the carpool carparks on your campus, as long as you display two of them on your dashboard and arrive with at least one passenger.
- Register for a free carpool permit now
- Take your staff or student ID with you and pick up your carpool permit at your local Security & Traffic Office
- Find a rideshare partner in your classes or with our new Carpool Matching Service
- Arrive at your carpool carpark with at least one other permit holder in the vehicle
- Display two permits clearly visible on your dashboard
You can freely swap cars and rideshare partners as long as you arrive at the carpark together and display two valid permits while you park there. There are security cameras at the entrance of each carpool area that are recording any misuse. Do not drop your passengers off before you get to the carpark or you will lose your permit.
Carpool Matching Service
Monash's new Carpool Matching Service allows you to find carpool mates in your area through a targeted search within the university community. If you would like to widen your search for rideshare partners we recommend the Australia-wide My Spare Seat service. Finding lifts or passengers within your circle of friends works great with the Facebook application Zimride. Both of them enable you to zoom around google maps for a closer look at areas farther away or en route from where you live.
Parking Spaces
Monash University is providing more than 600 dedicated carpool spaces at Berwick, Caulfield, Clayton, and Peninsula this year.
Berwick Carpool Area: The carpool spaces at Berwick are located on the gravel area at the far end of the car parks
Caulfield Carpool Area: The carpool area at Caulfield is located on the top level of the multi-level carpark next to the shopping centre
Clayton Carpool Areas: The carpool spaces at Clayton are located on the top level of both multi-level carparks North-1, South-East-4 and Central-11
Peninsula Carpool Area: The carpool area at Peninsula is located to the right of the main entry roundabout
